Solar Incentives Question List

Incentives can change the economics of a project, but they are easy to oversimplify. Use these questions to understand what is assumed in each solar proposal.

Questions to ask every installer

  • Which tax credits, rebates, or utility programs are you assuming in this proposal?
  • Are those savings already reflected in the price, financing, or payback story?
  • What depends on homeowner eligibility, tax situation, or application timing?
  • Who handles the paperwork, and what deadlines or documentation matter most?

Where confusion usually happens

Incentives are often shown as guaranteed savings even when eligibility depends on tax liability, program availability, or utility approval timing.

Some proposals mix true incentives with projected utility savings. Those are different assumptions and should be separated.

Use this list when comparing quotes

Ask each installer to explain incentives the same way: what is currently available, what is estimated, what paperwork is required, and what happens if assumptions change.

That makes it much easier to compare one quote against another without getting lost in blended savings numbers.
